Before
A self guided tour is a tour where you yourself take responsibility of navigation, of how fast you go, what time you start in the morning, you yourself book dinner restaurants and a lot more. At the same time, you know that the route is professionally designed, safe and is guaranteed to bring you to beautiful landscapes and villages. If there is a major problem you also always have the support from our team by phone or WhatsApp.
For us it is very important that you have as good an experience as possible. That is the reason why we include* that one include that one of our guides join you for a few hours during the first day. The guide will help you setup your bikes and then shows you how they work. He will also show you how the GPS works, it is fairly simple (see our video). If you have your own GPS we will send you the tracks so you can have it prepared before arriving.
He also gives you a roadbook with information and maps for each day of biking.
* Please note that the Mountain to Sea Touring-route does not include a first day with guide or a GPS. This tour is very easy to navigate so it is simply not necessary.
Please see our separate page where we explain the different levels of difficulty for the tours.
For most of our tours we recommend double suspension, electric mountainbikes. For our Touring-tours it also work with hybrid city bikes.
For examples of the bikes you can rent from us, please see our Bike Rental page.
We have around 300 days of sun every year so it is most likely that you will not receive any rain during your tour with us. But we are in the mountains and the weather can change quickly so please always carry a rainjacket with you.
The difference of temperature between the high mountains and the valleys is big. It is not uncommon to have 10 C at your highest point of the route and then 28 C by the hotel at the end of the day.
The best weather site for the local weather is Meteoblue. They also have an excellent app that we recommend that you install.
Yes, we recommend that you have a valid travel insurance in case something happens to you during the tour.
If you rent bikes from us, they are not insured. You have a good bike lock included when you rent bikes. If they get while you are stopped for example stolen you are responsible to pay the amount of money that the bikes are worth. Please confirm with your travel insurance if they cover the bikes.
If the bikes are stolen from a hotel, the hotel will be responsible for paying the value of the bikes. All the hotels have proper bike storage facilities where you can securely leave and charge the bikes.
The days you change hotel you pack your bags and leave them in the reception before taking off.
While you are biking we will come and pick up your bags and drive them to your next hotel.
The bags are guaranteed to arrive before 16.00.
For each village and city that you pass you can be sure that we have chosen the best hotel for the tour – comfortable, easy to reach on bike and good parking for your bikes.
We don’t specify the hotels in the description of each tour since we sometimes need to change. But of course we will always specify the hotels included in your package before you confirm the booking.
